In this world of hustle and bustle, it's so easy to get distracted or side tracked with other commitments that we have. One of the hardest things for a woman in particular to do, is focus on herself. Society makes us think that it's selfish for a woman, (especially a mom) to make herself a priority. However, I believe that's entirely opposite.
I personally have the WORST time staying focused. There are so many things I work on at once. Some data has shown this as being positive because it shows I can multi-task. Other data suggests this is not effective at all because you can't do many things at once and do them all effectively. I have no idea which one is correct. But I do know it's important to be focused.
Putting yourself as a priority is not only a wonderful idea, it's necessary. Below is a short list of ways you can start doing that.
1. Meditation: There are many forms of meditation. Some include prayers and chants. However, I find that just taking a few moments in the morning and throughout the day to sit and reflect on the present instead of worrying about the next step or what I have to do next, works best for me. It's tough to sometimes be present in the moment. With technology, we are always getting notifications, pings, emails, texts, calendars, etc telling us what is going on and giving us direction to the next steps and what to do next. Just try taking a few moments for yourself in the mornings or any other time during te day to just reflect and gather yourself. I believe you'll feel so much better for it.
2. Scheduling: This is one of the hardest things for me to do. Schedule or calendar the things that are most important for you to get done and try to stick to it. I find that if I write down my goals or to-do's, then cross off what I've done, it makes me feel accomplished.
3. Consistency: Just like with your health and wellness, consistency is key. This is one of the biggest areas of our lives we seem to be inconsistent in. For several reasons too. However, there's a saying that rings true. "You'll either pay for good health now, or you'll pay for bad health later." It's just so important. For instance, if your goal is to work out 3-4 times a week, try to come up with a consistent schedule for your workouts. Know exactly what you want to work on before you get to the gym. This will decrease wasted time and increase effectiveness. There are many apps that will assist you in knowing which muscle groups to work and for how long. Technology has made things much easier in this rest.

One of the reasons weight loss is such a hot topic in our country is because we are a society that is driven by how we look and feel. Make up in your mind today that you will "focus" on yourself first. Eat healthier, make a plan to lose weight and tone your body. You owe it to yourself to be good to yourself.
