Some people feel that losing weight is relatively easy, if following the correct diet plan.  Most people are quite successful with the loss.  It's MAINTAINING the loss that stumps most of us.  From the famous weight loss struggles that Oprah Winfrey has so openly spoken about from yo yo dieting and the like, to our own personal struggles that keep us starting over on programs, you may be asking yourself "what is the problem?"  I've often asked myself the same question.  I've had weight loss/weight maintenance issues ALL MY ADULT LIFE and it is a daily struggle to make good food choices that don't land me back in the same space I was in before.  I was considered OBESE.  

How does a 28 year old relatively active female be overweight?  I went on a wellness program and lost a whopping 24 pounds in 6 weeks.  I felt GREAT!!  I looked GREAT!  I thought I was well on my way to maintaining my new body.  

Fast forward a couple years and I got up to 217 pounds.  I was devastated, depressed and didn't know what to do.  I heard of this new program called HCG and tried it out.  I received the drops from a clinic in South Florida, but it didn't come with much training or instruction.  I went to the clinic once a week to weigh in with this lil skinny gal who hadn't even tried the product.  She was just there to "sell" the product.  I lost 28 pounds and looked fantastic!  Hummmm...so why didn't she tell me about Phase 3?  What...there's something called maintenance?  Oh gawsh...I didn't do that!  Could that be the reason I not only gained back the 28 pounds VERY QUICKLY...but I also gained even more than that???? What I've found, is that plenty of programs work.  It's a mindset that turns your weight loss in to a lifestyle.  Sometimes we think that eating the same types of foods we ate after we've lost the weight is "ok."  Or if we have "just a bite," we can maintain.  I believe that addictions to food are very real, as real as an addiction to drugs or alcohol.  Therefore we must deal with the addiction in the same manner.  I personally know how my body responds to sugar.  Sugar is 7 times more addictive than cocaine and once I have a taste of it, I go on an uncontrollable binge and I literally have to stop myself.  Because I have recognized that this is my addition, I have to stay away from it altogether.  

Another key to maintaining your weight loss after your diet program ends is to maintain a level of activity.  You must continue to do the things you did while on the program you were on.  A sudden stop or decrease in activity will surely affect your physical state.  Whether it is weight lifting, walking, cardio, aerobics, etc...keep moving.

Drinking water is essential as well.  Although it is recommended to drink at least half your body weight in water, the type of water you drink makes a huge impact on your weight loss and maintenance.  My friend Connie Nisen has a great presentation regarding water here.
